Felbermayr: To AMAG on inland vessel and in backward movement

Heavy equipment for AMAG’s new aluminium plant are carried from Rotterdam via the heavy lift port Linz to Innviertel under the direction of Felbermayr

Starting from Rotterdam, the Felbermayr group has recently implemented eight heavy transports for a new plant of AMAG Ranshofen, a producer of aluminum from Upper Austria. The subsidiary Häger & Schmidt International organised the ship transports from Rotterdam to Felbermayr’s heavy load port in Linz by. The subsequent road transport required numerous traffic-control measures, in order to deliver the approximately 200 tonnes of heavy components in Linz in due time.

The road transport started in mid-December with two rolling stands with a length and width of each about eight and five meters, respectively. „Due to their weight of about 200 tonnes, the components were transported on two 20-axle flatbed trucks in a convoy,“ explains Jürgen Steinbrecher of the Wels transport department. For structural reasons a 100-meters bridge had to be passed in backward movement. For reasons of better weight distribution, the low loader was pulled by two tractors diagonally across the road. Sixteen more bridges could be passed without taking special action.

Another convoy of two transports followed in mid-January, and was also implemented according to schedule. The heavy parts will be used for a new hot rolling mill. The customer of this transport project is the Italian engineering company Danieli.
