FMS shines as a sea freight forwarder and stem cell donor

Fr. Meyer’s Sohn (FMS) is a family-owned, global shipping company specialising in the international transportation of bulk commodities, documented by its market leadership in paper and forestry product logistics. Handling more than 850,000 TEU per year, the company is one of the world’s ten largest ocean freight forwarders. Tailor-made, intermodal customer solutions add to the product portfolio. 800 employees in over 20 countries generate annual sales of around EUR 750 million.

Traditionally, all employees at Fr. Meyer’s Sohn are invited to submit proposals worldwide for the coming Christmas season, for which organisations the company should donate at the end of the year. Every year, three to four projects are selected in which one or more employees are active themselves.

This year, in addition to the annual fundraising campaign, everyone in the German locations wanted to call for something good and to make it as simple as possible. Thus, a DKMS registration day was launched. At all nine German Fr. Meyer’s Sohn locations, employees were able to register as potential DKMS donors in mid-November during their working hours: “Open your mouth, test strip in, be a donor”.

“Not only for our customers our trademarks ‘easy’ and ‘commitment’ apply internally, we also implement this on as many levels as possible – with a participation rate of over 33 per cent and thus more than 110 new, potential donors, the day was a great success”, Nadine Kinscher, Head of Marketing, was pleased to announce when the event was launched.

Every 15 minutes, a person in Germany receives the devastating diagnosis of blood cancer. Many patients are children and adolescents whose only chance of recovery is a stem cell donation. But every tenth patient can not find a donor. The DKMS (German bone marrow donor file) has been working since 1991 to find the right donor for patients worldwide.
