Fowler Welch launches training programme

Logistics company Fowler Welch has launched a driver training programme. The training programme has been implemented in three of nine Fowler Welch sites to attract new talent to the industry.

The sites included in the training programme, which has been developed alongside Driving Careers and Talent Training, are at Heywood, Nuneaton and Washington. Topics covered in the training include: regulations and legislation, customer service, fuel efficient driving, route planning and use of specialist equipment and machinery.

“The profile of LGV drivers is ageing, with a large number approaching retirement,” said Alan Hanrahan, driver development manager.

“Couple this with the growth of the food and drink industry and recent statistics suggest that the UK logistics industry is short of 45,000-60,000 drivers.”

“In 2017, we have committed to hiring and training 50 driving trainees, with hopes to bring even more talented people into the industry in the coming years. We are aiming to equip the trainees with the skills and know-how to thrive in a growing industry and establish a long-lasting career.”
