GB Railfreight extends Lineas contract

GB Railfreight has extended its European freight operation partnership with Lineas, which comprises a rail freight line between Antwerp, Belgium, and Irvine, Scotland, for a further two years.

Trains will arrive in Calais from the LINEAS Rail operation, consisting of 20 ICA Tank Rail Wagons carrying 1,200 tonnes of product per train. The service will transport kaolin clay, used for the process of whitening paper, to the UPM Caledonian Papermill in South-West Scotland.

John Smith, Managing Director of GB Railfreight, said: “This service will be the longest term of operation for running services through the Channel Tunnel for GBRf.

“In addition, the shift to rail freight is a vital part of decarbonising our transport system. Our partnership with Lineas shows our commitment to doing our part to reach the ambitious target of net zero emissions by 2050 and we hope to build on this going forward.”

The Logistics Manager Top 50 Service Providers, published on 7th December, will include analysis of the UK rail freight market.
