Geis Group to increase efficiency in Slovakia

Geis Parcel Slovakia achieves annual double-digit growth rates of parcels; a new parcel sorter for the hub in Zvolen gives the company new opportunities

Geis Group strengths the parcel business in Slovakia: Geis Parcel SK s.r.o, the Slovakian provider for standard and express parcel services, has put into operation fully-automated conveyor chain facility. At the same time, the company has increased modernization investments for its individual warehouses.

The two-storied sorting system in Zvolen has four telescope entrances and ten exits with a total capacity of the sorter as high as 3,000 parcels per hour. Scanning machines provide a reliable collection of bar codes by means of which the parcels are automatically directed to the right tracks. Sorted parcels are transported to the 87 loading bays by conveyor belts. Moreover, the sorting system has been equipped with a video-surveillance system.

The Slovakian central hub, which is part of the Geis group, was inaugurated last year in the town of Zvolen, situated in the heart of the country. This hub exercises a double function and hosts both a handling hall as well as a parcel service hub. The latter measures around 5,000 square meters and is equipped with a fully-automated conveyor chain facility and almost 50 gates operated by hydraulic bridges.

“For several years now, we have been able to account for annual increases of the amount of parcels in the two-digit range”, says Joachim Fink, Managing Director of the Geis Group. “Having taken account of these developments by our investment in the new parcel sorter, we are now also equipped for future growth.“
