German Logistics Congress 2008

Rhenus Focuses on Intercultural Management and Having a Presence in the BRIC Countries

Creating Value  Connecting Cultures is the motto for the 25th German Logistics Congress to be held in Berlin on 22 – 24 October 2008. In the eyes of the Rhenus Group, which will have a stand at the Congress, Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) represent some of the most important growth markets. The logistics service provider Rhenus has been successfully operating in these markets for many years using a mixture of Western European logistics expertise and local people, who know the language and country.

The Rhenus Group has operations in the BRIC countries. It has 21 of its own business centers and works in conjunction with many other partners. The company provides its customers with all the services from the Contract Logistics, Freight Logistics and Port Logistics business areas.

Although the BRIC countries label suggests some kind of uniformity, they are really four countries with very different economic and political conditions. So Rhenus is committed to each in a different way:

The company has had a presence in Russia for 20 years and has twelve business locations of its own. As Western industrial and trading companies invest there, Rhenus will grow in tune with its customers. Rhenus has had its own offices in China for six years. Chinas huge economic success is still based on low wage costs, but the quality of the products is rising and this means that exports are increasing. On the other hand, the country will still depend on imports of machinery, pharmaceutical and chemical products for a long time. A Rhenus subsidiary, RMK Logistics do Brasil, opened an office in Santos, Brazil one year ago. The company is also working with a local logistics service provider. The huge level of commitment by German companies in Brazil and the increasing stability of the economy bode well for further growth. The Rhenus subsidiary Maxx Intermodal Systems has an office in Mumbai, India and has a holding in the Rosemount company. India is viewed as a market of the future for German companies too because of its strong economic growth rates. The high level of domestic demand is particularly boosting the countrys economic development.
