Germany: New truck toll tariffs for 2015 with extra class for Euro VI

Truck toll in Germany from 2015: Standard toll tariffs for national motorways and main roads; favourable toll category for Euro-VI trucks

Last week Germany’s federal transport ministry (BMVI) in Berlin has published the new toll tariffs for trucks of more than 12 tonnes gross weight on national motorways and main roads, effective 1 January 2015. At the same time, a favourable toll category will be introduced for Euro VI trucks.

Compared with previous toll tariffs, they will be reduced across all emission categories from 2015 – with the exemption of Euro-V vehicles up to three axles. The Euro-V vehicles, dominating in the market, with four or more axles, there will be a comparably low reduction of the tariffs from 15.5 to 15.2 euro cent per kilometre.

In 2015 a favourable toll category will be introduced for the particularly environmentally friendly vehicles of the Euro VI emission class, with a new tariff of 12.5 or 13.1 euro cent per kilometre. This means a reduction of 2.1 euro cent per kilometre for these trucks, compared to Euro-V vehicles. This difference had been a demand of the German forwarding association Deutscher Speditions- und Logistikverband (DSLV) for a long time. The previous differentiation of the infrastructure toll tariff according to emission classes is dropped and will be replaced with air pollution costs according to the Euro truck classes.

A draft law presented on 2 July 2014 stipulates the following toll tariff changes for the period from 2015 to 2017:
