Hegmann’s mega curtainsiders offer new heavy haulage variants for BigMove

The mega curtainsider trucks is also in intermodal use an economically interesting variant for pre and onward carriage of heavy haulage that requires authorisation

Delivered in June, the five mega curtainsider trucks ideally fit Hegmann Transit’s strategy. For the current highly sensitive cargo pieces, the 36.2 m long trailers present an ideal interim rolling storage. But they also expand the BigMove group’s range of efficient transport options. The simple telescopic vehicle keeps the preload consistently and safely, that the driving height of only 40 millimeters is maintained virtually free of vibration. Contact with the ground is thus excluded, and this applies to cargo weighing up to 18 tonnes, up to 26 meters long, up to 3.40 meters wide and 4 meters high.

Rail-borne vehicles, completed or semi-finished, long components for cranes, sensitive cargo like insulated stainless steel boilers, tanks and indivisible carriers of any type can thus be transported fully protected under the tarpaulin. “So this can be seen as the ‘Gigaliner for heavy transport’, with the subtle difference that it is well-conceived and it works”, Georg Tietz, CTO of BigMove AG, said about the mega curtainsider.

The mega curtainsiders complement also intermodal heavy haulage concepts to a considerable extent. Because cargo pieces, perfectly tailored to this vehicle, must often be delivered to international ports or are destined in onward carriage for Central Europe. Combined with the mega curtainsider, the new Hegmann heavy cargo terminal in Niederrhein, the inland port in Wesel offers an outstanding transhipment and warehousing option. In the covered 15,000 m² warehouse 230 rail-borne semi-finished vehicles from all over Europe are waiting for their further transport.

At the quay wall motor coasters can berth and tranship goods, which are designed for coastal use and navigable rivers. The local crane facilities can lift up to 180 tonnes. This infrastructure helps avoiding usually required interim stops in surrounding maritime ports. This eliminates approvals, saves time, effort and finally costs.
