Hermes to challenge Royal Mail

Hermes UK is to challenge its competitors, including Royal Mail, when it alters its parcel weight bans for both small and medium sized parcels.

The parcel delivery company said that it has revised the weight bans to make it ‘easier for both small businesses and consumers to compare prices against its competitors’.

Previously, Hermes customers paid incremental shipping costs as the parcel weight increases. These ranged from “up to 1kg” for lighter items, “up to 2kg” for heavier parcels and “up to 15kgs” for the largest.

“This adjustment brings our parcel weight bands in line with many of our competitors and will therefore provide sole traders, SMEs and independent retailers with the ability to better compare shipping costs,” said Eoin Kenneally, head of e-commerce at Hermes UK. “By enhancing transparency across the marketplace, we will ensure more consumers can benefit from the true value for money offered by myHermes’ range of services.”
