Huge logistics and industrial scheme planned for Humber on hold

Plans for a major new employment development on the Humber which would provide 4.3 million sq ft of employment space and support the creation of thousands of jobs have been put on hold.

Associated British Ports (ABP) submitted plans to East Riding of Yorkshire Council in 2018 for a 453-acre site, located between Saltend Chemical Park and the village of Paull.

The hybrid application seeks outline planning permission for about 4.3 million sq ft of employment space in a number of buildings, with the majority set to be industrial and storage and distribution uses. Full planning permission was being sought for a spine road that would link the A1033 Hull Road.

It has been estimated that the proposed development with a value of around £350 million could support the creation of about 7,500 jobs.

Despite planning officers recommendations to approve the scheme, councillors decided this week – in a virtual planning committee meeting – to defer the proposals for more consultation and expect ABP to put forward revised plans before a decision is made.

Councillors had said the scheme “would be bigger than the town of Hedon and the village of Paull combined”. There had been 800 letters of objection.
