IKEA gives five-year contract to Wincanton

Wincanton has signed a five-year contract with IKEA Ireland to manage the retailer’s first customer distribution centre (CDC).

The 280,000ft² facility which will be based in Dublin will allow for faster customer fulfilment by reducing customer lead times.

Products have previously been delivered to customers in Ireland through distribution centres in the UK.

By locating the CDC in Ireland, IKEA will be closer to the end customer, which will be part of its CO2 reduction strategy.

Jakob Bertilsson, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager at IKEA UK and Ireland, said: “Establishing a distribution centre in Ireland is a significant step in further expansion in Ireland.

“This move supports our omnichannel strategy to cater to customers’ shopping preferences while driving towards our goal of achieving 100% zero emission last mile delivery by 2025.”

The first deliveries are expected to leave the warehouse in early 2024, and when fully operational, the CDC will create 120 jobs across logistics, warehousing, and administration.

Wincanton has previously won the industry’s most prestigious award at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
