Imperial Shipping Group acquires 49 per cent of Bulgaria’s Rubiships

Entry in Rubiships (Ruse) opens Imperial Shipping Group new opportunities for growth at the lower Danube and Black Sea region

The Imperial Shipping Group is implementing its plans to further expand its activities on the Danube. As of 20 April 2012 the company based in Duisburg, ranking among the leading river shipping companies in Western Europe, took over 49 per cent of the shares of Rubiships Shipowners, Brokers & Agents based in Ruse, Bulgaria.

In completion to its forwarding activities with six own vessels, the new holding in Southerastern Europe operates a weekly liner service for dry goods from Costanza to Kelheim and return. Established in 1996 in Ruse, the shipping enterprise has currently 48 employees, 36 of them working on board the cargo motor vessels. “The integration into the Imperial Shipping Group allows for expansion of the services in this promising region. I see growth opportunities in the joint company, particularly regarding customer relations within a distance of 2,000 kilometres“, says Robert Radoslavov, managing associate Rubiships.

Jürgen Helten, managing director Chartering & Services of the Imperial Shipping Group, explains the entry at Rubiships with by the growing demand of West European customers – particularly from the agricultural sector – for service concepts with points of departure and destination in the Black Sea region. “Rubiships enables us to offer one-source transport services from the North Sea ports to the Black Sea. Also throughput and warehousing, as well as land transport is covered by our portfolio. Short-Sea shipments and clearance services in the Black Sea region will complete our offering in the future“, he comments on the range of services.

The new alliance offers great growth potential in Bulgaria, Romania, but also in Turkey. It is the basis for joining activities of Rubiships and Multinaut Donaulogistik GmbH, a subsidiary of the Imperial Shipping Group based in Vienna, and Rubiships into a uniform provider of solutions. “We were able to collect first experiences in cooperation of the companies during a three-years period“, says Peter Jedlicka, CEO Multinaut, who will form the management board of Rubiships together with Robert Radoslavov.
