IMS Cargo Austria starts third attempt in Wolfurt

Premiere ride on February 4th: Container operator IMS Austria connects Wolfurt via Switzerland with seaport Rotterdam

Container operator IMS Cargo Austria integrates the KLV-terminal in Wolfurt into its international network for intermodal transports road/rail for the third time. The „Rhine Shuttle“ will connect the freight hub in Vorarlberg with seaport Rotterdam twice a week, starting from February 4th. The consignments are alternately passed to Rekingen in Zurich or Frenkendorf near Basel and there they are fed into regular block train transports of IMS Rail Switzerland. Initially Wolfurt-service offers a capacity of 64 TEUs per departure but shall receive an increase to 80 TEUs per train as soon as possible.

The entry of the so far not very well known port Rotterdam to Vorarlberg seems to be an opportunity for the local freight forwarders in the eyes of IMS CEO Wolfgang Tomassovich. Because, he argues: „Every year we clear around 45,000 TEU to Rotterdam, so we have already had good experirence with the port and its infrastructure.“

IMS was found in 1993 as private container operator. As a full service provider with branch offices in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, Hungary,  the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Portugal and global partners it offers all services related to combined transport. In 2013 IMS processed a total of 171,000 TEU and made a turnover of EUR 51 million with around 100 employees.
