INE announced selected waterway projects for EU funding

FAIRway Austria-study of the Austrian Ministry of Transport was selected for EU funding; Danube river receives more than EUR 35 million co-financing

EU Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc announced at the start of this week which TEN-T transport projects will receive EU-funding. Given the fact the requested funding exceeded 3 times the available budget of EUR 13 billion, a lot of grant requests were significantly reduced except for the priority projects.
Divided over a range of projects, the Danube river receives more than EUR 35 million co-financing for fairway and improved navigability works and EUR 100 million for a Danube cross-border bridge in Hungary.
Among these projects is FAIRway Austria, a study conducted by the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit), at an estimated total cost of EUR 646,322. It was selected to receive a EU financial contribution at the amount of 50 per cent (EUR 323,161 at maximum).
Inland Navigation Europe (INE) is the European platform of national & regional waterway managers and promotion bureaus, established in 2000 with the support of the European Commission. INE sees major opportunities to contribute to long-term strategies for sustainable transportation by moving more goods by water in EU regions and cities with accessible and navigable rivers and canals. INE is a neutral platform without commercial interests.
