Kombiverkehr strengthens its connection to the Baltic Sea
Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG, Europe’s market leader in intermodal rail transport, is strengthening its committment in Baltic Sea traffic to and from the Lübeck seaport by significantly increasing the frequency on the route to and from Duisburg-Ruhrort port. The transport frequency was increased from six to nine departures per week and direction from 16 October 2017 already, will be further increased to a total of eleven departures per week and direction with effect from 7 November.
The connection between Duisburg and Lübeck has been operated by Kombiverkehr KG since 1998. In early 2000, it was transferred to the national Kombi-Netz 2000+ and has since served as an important direct train connecting the Baltic Sea port of Lübeck to the economic region of the Ruhr area. “This service is a prime example of a very sustainable operation of an intermodal connection on an important national transport corridor with an international orientation towards Scandinavia,” says Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales at Kombiverkehr.
With the increased capacity, the operator now offers two daily departures north-south bound; departure from Duisburg on Saturday remains unchanged. In the opposite direction, there will be two departures per day from Monday to Thursday, one each on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. All transported containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers can reach the early departures of the ferries on the following day at the Baltic Rail Gate terminal to Malmö and Trelleborg in southern Sweden.
The forwarding service by ferry from the Lübeck-Scandinavia quay can also be reached via Helsinki, Kotka and Turku, Finland and Ventspils, Latvia. Transfers to the Lübeck port sections Nordlandkai, Seelandkai, Dänischburg and Lehmannkai are organised by Kombiverkehr on behalf of its customers. Within Sweden and Norway there are extensive train connections within the network of Green Cargo and Cargo Net AB.
