Launch of marshalling yard Falkenberg by the BLG Logistics Group

Marshalling yard by the BLG Logistics Group in Brandenburg supports the automotive industry in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with regard to the formation of block-trains:

As hub for vehicle transports by rail, the BLG Logistics Group reactivated the marshalling yard in Falkenberg in Brandenburg at the beginning of the month. BLG AutoRail and their new subsidiary BLG RailTech with headquarters in Falkenberg are in charge of the operations. The yard offers enough space for 500 waggons.

Falkenberg is located on the rail connection from the Czech Republic to the ports on the North Sea – a main BLG AutoRail track. On the one hand the marshalling yard acts as a storage siding and on the other hand it is used for marshalling operations and mobile maintenance. For this purpose they purchased two shunting locomotives. In 2014 a workshop for extensive periodical waggon inspections will be set up. Until then the number of employees in Falkenberg is to grow to more than 50. BLG AutoRail will dispose of more than 1.300 special waggons for vehicle transports at that time. They presently have 700 units at their disposal.

Due to a lack of track capacities in the plants, the vehicle manufacturers must make sure that the car carriers are loaded and dispatched swiftly. The BLG Logistics Group fetches the waggon groups for the different destinations from the plants and puts them together to form block-trains with one single destination in Falkenberg. The plants in Nosovice (the Czech Republic) as well as Bratislava and Zilina in Slovakia lend themselves to this activity. The BLG AutoRail customers are the VW Group, Hyundai and KIA. The company has already signed a new contract covering the transport of 250.000 vehicles with this new service line.
