Maersk and Hapag Lloyd partner on Med – US East Coast routes

Maersk plans to enter into a slot swap agreement with Hapag Lloyd, between Hapag Lloyd’s Mediterranean Gulf Express (MGX) service and Maersk’s WestMed service.

New rotation for the WestMed service: Marsaxlokk (Malta) > Gioia Tauro > Livorno > Genoa (Italy) > Fos sur Mer (France) > Valencia > Algeciras (Spain) > Newark, New Jersey > Norfolk, Virginia > Savannah, Georgia, (US) >  Marsaxlokk (Malta).

Rotation for new Mediterranean Gulf Express (MGX) service: Cagliari > Livorno > Genoa (Italy) > Barcelona > Valencia (Spain) > Savannah, Georgia > Port Everglades, Florida > Houston, Texas > New Orleans, Louisiana > Port Everglades, Florida (US) > Cagliari (Italy).

This new improved coverage offers:

  • New direct service from Barcelona and Valencia in Spain to the US East Coast and the US Gulf
  • New direct service from the US Gulf to Italy and Spain
  • New US ports added: New Orleans, Houston and Port Everglades
  • New Mediterranean ports added: Valencia, Barcelona and Cagliari

Pending final approval from the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), the new services are scheduled to begin on March 1st.
