Maersk diverts ships after problems at Felixstowe

Maersk says it expects diversions of ships from Felixstowe to continue into next week following an upgrade to the Terminal Operating System at the port, which has reduced productivity.

The shipping line has set up web site to keep customers updated on the status of vessels.

As of 20th June, some vessels had been delayed while others had been diverted to London Gateway.

Maersk said: “The situation in Felixstowe remains challenging at the time with diversions continuing into next week. Landside rail and road operations are still being impacted and we are not seeing any improvement in this area.

“We have deployed more than 100 additional trucks to cover haulage requirements at Felixstowe and diversion ports.”

And update from the Port of Felixstowe dated 18th June said: “Performance across all areas of the container division; vessel, road and rail, has improved significantly over the last 72 hours.

“The average turnaround time for trucks at our container terminals is down to 48 minutes. Quayside productivity is double that achieved in early part of last week and rail operation has stabilised.”
