Maersk rationalises ICON service into Daily Maersk

Maersk has announced that in an effort to rationalise and further optimise its network between the Far East and the Indian Subcontinent to North Europe, Maersk Line will be merging its ICON service with the Asia-Europe ‚Daily Maersk‘ network.

At present, the ICON service consists of seven Panmax vessels. Beside the optimisation for the Indian Subcontinent to North Europe trade, the company believes this rationalisation will also help in the efforts to establish a more balanced supply/demand scenario within the Far East to North Europe trade.

The network changes will become effective in February 2012, and will feature a number of product enhancements for the ICON service. This will include: a dedicated feeder link between Chittagong and Tanjung Pelelas, providing access to the Daily Maersk network; its AE7 service will introduce a direct call in Colombo westbound, improving the transit time from Colombo to North Europe by two to three days; and it will add a weekly Chennai feeder link via Colombo, improving on time delivery.

In addition, exports from Northern Europe to the Indian Subcontinent, including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will be covered on the AE1 service which will feature direct call in Colombo.

The company stated that these changes will not have any impact on its Daily Maersk network and thetransportation times will remain unchanged.
