Merger of Spedag East Africa and Interfreight East Africa

Spedag Interfreight becomes part of M+R Spedag group and thus one of the major logistics suppliers in East Africa:

A new strong provider is becoming active in the market of logistics and project forwarding services in East Africa. Previously competitors, Spedag East Africa and Interfreight East Africa have merged at the start of September. The new enterprise – Spedag Interfreight – is a company of the M+R Spedag group and offers optimised logistic competences and a stronger orientation towards project forwarding in the growth market Africa.

“For our global customers this merger means a gain in customised project solutions in the very demanding East African market. Transport volume from Europe, eastern and southeastern Asia to Africa has risen considerably in the past decade and will continue to growth above average“, says Daniel Richner, majority shareholder of the new corporate group. From his point of view this merger marks another step of the M+R Spedag group’s strategy to focus on expansion in eastern Asia, India and Africa.

Spedag East Africa has lately been market leader for project logistics in the East African market. Among experts Interfreight East Africa was seen as one of the biggest providers of storage and logistics services, and as a significant partner for export trade. Moreover the enterprise was considered a specialist for the oil and gas industry, as well as an expert for logistic solutions for aid transportations.

Spedag Interfreight employs 700 persons in Switzerland, Kenya, Uganda, Tansania, Ruanda, Burundi, DR Congo and South-Sudan. Moreover the M+R Spedag group has been operating own offices in South Africa for 50 years. In this new constellation the enterprise has own terminals in Mombasa, Kampala, Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg, with a total warehousing space of 32,000 m² and 60,000 m² trucking-container yards. A fleet of 350 vehicles is daily operating in Africa.
