Mondi Świecie in Poland has been conserving significant environmental resources since it started up the ECO7 line

Since its start-up on September 1, 2009, ECO7 has produced 637,133 metric tons of recycled containerboard (Source: Mondi Świecie internal production report, September 2009 – March 2011). ECO7 produces the two paper grades ProVantage Testliner and ProVantage Fluting WB from waste paper. Mondi Świecie consumes more than 40% of all the recycled fibre collected in Poland. According to the latest findings, fibre can be recycled 6 to 8 times before it becomes unusable. The entire ECO7 production operation is FSC®-certified. Its efficiency and short production cycles result in shorter lead times and high and fast availability of standard grades. The new service concept called ECO7 premium makes sure that standard widths can be delivered within 24 hours in Poland and 48 hours to neighbouring markets.

CO2 emissions reduced
The continuous efforts made in recent years to protect the environment are reaping impressive rewards. Although the mill’s total paper production almost doubled between 2003 and 2010, CO2 emissions per ton decreased by more than 60% (Source: Mondi Świecie internal analysis).

Reduced water consumption
The water consumption figures for the Świecie mill show an outstanding downward trend. In 2010, the first full year of ECO7’s operation, water consumption was reduced by another 19% compared to 2009 (Source: Mondi Świecie internal analysis).

Reduced electricity consumption
Electricity consumption is tracing a similar pattern. In 2010, less electricity was consumed than in any of the recent years. 10% reduction in electricity consumption was achieved between 2009 and 2010 (Source: Mondi Świecie internal analysis).
