More large-scale containerships for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines

Japanese container shipping line Mitsui O.S.K. Lines takes action to raise its capacity in east-west traffic:

The Japanese container shipping line Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is starting a program to enhance its transport capacities on the east-west traffic corridor. They ordered two containerships, each 8,600 TEU, from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. With delivery scheduled for 2013, the new vessels will be deployed to Asia-Europe routes along with eight 8,100 TEU ships already in operation. The company also reached an agreement with NOL Group (Singapore) for a three-year charter of five large containerships, each 14,000 TEU. These units will be delivered in 2013 – 2014 and will serve with the other five operated on Asia-Europe routes.

Junichiro Ikeda, CEO, MOL Liner, sees this expansion of the fleet as a securing measure to provide the needed capacity on the east-west route to customers. In a press release the manager announces continuous works to further improve and optimise the service quality and competitiveness.
