Scandlines: Starting signal for expansion of the port in Gedser

Scandlines shipping line cuts the first sod for the expansion at the port in Gedser:

On 28 June the Scandlines shipping company held a ceremony to cut the first sod for the expansion of the port in Gedser, Denmark. The measures to expand the port are part of the investments of the ferry shipping company to enhance the eastern corridor. From spring 2012 the shipping line will raise the capacity on the Gedser-Rostock route by deploying the new ferry vessels ”Copenhagen” and ”Berlin”. Scandlines therefore invests into a tailor-made harbour facility to create ideal conditions for the two technologically innovative ferries.

”With the harbour expansion and the two new super ferries, Scandlines invests considerably in the future. We do so because we believe that Scandlines is a natural and crucial player in the vision for a logistic eastern corridor throughout the entire EU – for tourism as for freight”, states Bengt Pihl, CEO of Scandlines. In total Scandlines invests an amount of EUR 230 million into the building of the ferries and expansion of the two ports Rostock and Gedser.
