MSC Gate Bremerhaven: 10 years in the sign of growth

Joint Venture MSC Gate Bremerhaven is an efficient, modern container terminal for handling the world’s largest container vessels

MSC Gate is a joint venture between Eurogate and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), an associated company of MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company. MSC Gate is a so-called “dedicated terminal” exclusive for the handling of the line’s own ships and ships belonging to partner shipping lines. Since its opening container handling volumes at the terminal have quadrupled. MSC Gate has currently a quay length of1,220 metres and 11 own mega container gantry cranes.

Over the years, the terminal has adapted its suprastructure in line with the increasing sizes of vessels. The first ships handled here ten years ago had a transport capacity of 2,000 to 5,000 TEU. Today’s container ships have a loading capacity of 16,000 TEU and more. MSC Gate is an efficient, modern container terminal with the capacity to handle the world’s biggest container ships.

Dr Heiner Heseler, counsellor to the Senator for Economics, Labour and Ports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, declared on the occasion of the celebration on 5 November: “The extraordinarily successful development of Bremerhaven container terminal is based on long-standing and trust-based partnerships with the port’s customers. For Bremerhaven, MSC Gate is one of these partners, with whom we have successfully overcome the major challenges of the past years and with whom we are looking to further increase handling volumes in the future. With the support of the Federal and Lower Saxony state governments, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen will ensure the relevant conditions, in particular efficient and seamless port hinterland transport operations, are met.”
