Müller Transporte invests EUR 3 million for traffic calming

Specialist for deep-freeze cargo avoids 80 daily truck trips and considers  moving its cool warehouse from Biedermannsdorf to Wiener Neudorf

Müller Transporte has been a model company in Wiener Neudorf (Bezirk Mödling) for more than 50 years. Today the transport enterprise has a leading position in Austria. Its success and growth enabled the company specialising in temperature-controlled transports to add several locatons in the past decades. Today there are Müller Transporte branches in Vienna, Kalsdorf (Styria), Hörsching (Upper Austria), Biedermannsdorf (Lower Austria) and Malacky (Slovakia).

The headquarters however, remains in Wiener Neudorf, where the company known for its white trailer trucks and a big „M“ for Müller in red-white-red also beyond the region, employs today 390 persons. In 1989 Müller Transporte moved within Wiener Neudorf from the location where it had been established (Hauptstraße 10) to the edge of the town – Palmersstraße 10. Over the past years, also this location has become too small. An additional truck parking was rented at Palmersstraße 5, close to the company headquarters. Despite the short distance of only a few hundred metres between the two plots, there has been additional traffic due to departures and transfers, which has been a thorn in the side of Müller Transporte.

Now this problem could be solved: Through an acquisition the Müller headquarters at Palmersstraße 10 was expanded by 28,0000 m², making the truck parking at Palmersstraße 5 – closer to the city centre – obsolete. As of now departures or transfers between the headquarters and the external parking in Wiener Neudorf are no longer necessary. Joining the adminstrative office and the truck parking at one and the same location in Wiener Neudorf – which is almost directly connected to the A2 motorway – trips across the residential city centre are no longer necessary, with only a few exceptions.

Fritz Müller, Managing Director Müller Transporte: „Müller Transporte is always taking into consideration the interests of residents and environment. We are pleased that we were able to join the two locations of our company – the headquarters and the truck parking – after so many years at one and the same site. Now we can avoid 80 daily trips within Wiener Neudorf, which is pleasing for us and our neighbours.“ The 80 daily short trips between the headquarters at Palmersstraße 10 and the former truck parking at Palmersstraße 5, only a few hundred metres away, accumulated about 24,000 kilometres per year until now, which can be saved entirely now.

Müller Transporte invested more than EUR 3 million to move the parking closer to the headquarters, and hence to reduce the truck trips within the town of Wiener Neudorf. As for the future, Müller Transporte is already considering futher investments and logistic improvements, which could help to massively reduce truck traffic between Wiener Neudorf and Biedermannsdorf.

In Biedermannsdorf Müller Transporte operates a cool warehouse, which might also be moved to the company’s headquarters in Wiener Neudorf thanks to the recent expansion. This action could save 150,000 truck kilometres per year between the municipalities of Biedermannsdorf and Wiener Neudorf, including a reduction of Co2 emissions. However, a reduction of traffic in the interest of the residents would require the permission and construction of an additional warehouse at the headquarters in Wiener Neudorf.
