Napatech introduces support for Intel Adapters

Napatech today announced the introduction of support for Intel Ethernet network adapters in its Napatech Software Suite. This allows Napatech’s OEM vendor customers to support both Napatech and Intel Ethernet network adapters using a single application software development effort.

The Napatech Software Suite is an advanced software package including a number of advanced features for pre-processing data traffic including data merge from multiple ports and adapters. The introduction of support for Intel network adapters allows OEM appliance vendors to address both low-end and high-end applications with a single software development effort.

“Napatech’s OEM customers use our intelligent network adapters to address high-end network monitoring and analysis requirements, but they also provide entry level solutions with lower performance requirements that are well served by standard Intel Ethernet adapters”, said Erik Norup, President, Napatech Inc. “The value of the Napatech Software Suite is in rationalization of our OEM customer’s development effort. Now, instead of maintaining and testing two separate software implementations, they can develop once and choose which adapter to use depending on the need.”

Napatech has introduced enhancements in the Napatech Software Suite that improve the performance of Intel network adapters in network monitoring and analysis applications. The first Intel Ethernet adapters to be supported are the Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I340-T4 quad port 1 Gbps copper and Intel Ethernet Server Adapter X520-SR2 dual port 10 Gbps fibre network adapters.

“We have used our expertise and knowledge of PC server architecture to increase the throughput that can be achieved using the supported Intel Ethernet adapters. The implementation also provides lower CPU load and can merge data from multiple ports more efficiently into a single stream. This makes it easier for applications to analyze captured data from multiple ports”, added Norup.
