New company building for ÖBB-Terminal Brennersee

Construction works for the new operations building have started in autumn 2014 – the project is completed by now

On a floor area of approximately 200 m², the two-storied building offers enough space for the staff and the technical equipment. Around 20 ÖBB employees are working in shifts. Apart from offices, a large, bright dressing/locker room, showers and toilets and a common room with kitchen are now available for the staff. The former temporary facility with containers has finally been removed. In total the ÖBB invests around EUR 1.4 million into the project.

At the Brennersee terminal, the first rolling road (ROLA) in Tyrol was established in 1989, in order to relieve the transit traffic across the Alps. Today, the ROLA sees an ever-increasing demand again. Whereas in the period from January to July 2014 around 87,000 trucks were transported between Brennersee and Wörgl, around 93,000 trucks are expected from January to the end of July 2015, which represents an increase of 6.9 per cent.

“We are very pleased that the rolling road (ROLA) between Brennersee and Wörgl is well received by international freight forwarders and transport companies. Rail Cargo Austria operates 28 to 30 daily ROLA trains on the Brenner corridor, at an utilisation rate of 85 per cent,” explains Andreas Fuchs, Head of Terminal Service Austria, ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG. The shift of 450 trucks from the road to the rolling road train results in a reduction by approximately 25 tonnes of CO₂ per day.

The ÖBB-Terminal Brennersee is open to customers from Sunday 6.30 pm, until Saturday 6 pm. In case of need, such as with increasing volume, operating times can also be extended.
