New large-scale scanner at Linz airport optimises air freight handling; 5th cargo terminal to start operation this autumn

Following a several-weeks testing stage, a new large-scale scanner for security check of cargo pieces has recently started regular operation in the cargo department of the Linz airport. The new device allows for security check of pallets and cargo pieces with the following maximum dimensions: 1.7 meters in height, 10 meters in length and weight of 2,000 kilograms.

The newly developed scanner with state-of-the-art technology enables the Linz airport to examine freight from different angles. This service is offered due to the new legal requirements on safety checks, also to customers who have no such facility (“unknown shippers“). The new device allows for shorter freight handling times and optimises hence the entire processing.
