Norbert expands tanker business with Hopkinson takeover

Norbert Dentressangle is expanding its tanker business with the acquisition of Hopkinson Transport, a family owned business specialising in storage and transport of bulk powder and PVC resin.

Hopkinson operates 25 vehicles from two locations, Newton Aycliffe and Staveley, with repackaging capabilities at the latter site. In total it employs 34 drivers, warehouse and administration staff.

Ann Dawson, managing director at Norbert Dentressangle Tankers, said there was a strong fit between the two companies’ customer bases and operations.

Mark Bingham, Hopkinson’s managing director will join the Norbert Dentressangle Tankers commercial team.

Dentressangle wants to expand its presence in bulk polymer distribution and added value logistics services.

Currently, it runs  500 tankers for distributing fuel, solid and liquid chemicals, gases, plastics and foodstuffs.

*  Dentressangle increased sales by 13.6 per cent in the first quarter to €1.1 billion. The strongest growth came in the Logistics business where revenue was up 19.8 per cent to €522m. Transport revenue was up 5.5 per cent to €527m.

Chairman Hervé Montjotin said: “The performance in the first quarter enables us to be confident about the outlook for the year in terms of business volumes.”
