One-hour service wins DPD Queen’s Award

DPD has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2015 in the Innovation category, for its one-hour delivery service, Predict.

Launched in 2010, Predict is a free service in the UK to give parcel recipients advanced notification of their one-hour delivery slot by SMS or email. The service includes a range of options allowing the customer to divert their parcel at any time to a specified neighbour or arrange the delivery for another day if they can’t be at home.

According to DPD, the service has been responsible for over £178m of new business wins.

CEO Dwain McDonald, said: “To deliver an equal number of parcels we can now run significantly fewer vehicles and drive a lot less miles, which in turn reduces our cost per stop and our CO2 emissions.”

Predict was developed in the UK by DPD’s IT department and operations team in close association with local depot managers. It uses a bespoke route optimisation system, which is integrated with the driver’s handheld device.
