Parcel service company DPD celebrates its anniversary

Gebrüder Weiss, Lagermax and Schachinger celebrate 25 years of their joint parcel service company DPD
 
On May 23, 2013 the parcel service company DPD celebrated together with customers and partners the jubilee of the 25th anniversary. The event took place at Palais Ferstel in Vienna, offering a program of culinary, live music and cabaret with “Dancing Star“ Rudi Roubinek.
 
In 1988 Austria’s leading freight forwarders Gebrüder Weiss, Lagermax and Schachinger founded Austria Paket System (APS), the country’s leading parcel service company which has been acting under the company name DPD since 1997. “On Monday May 2, 1988 we handled the first parcel in our system", tells Rainer Schwarz, managing director DPD in Austria.
 
In the year of the foundation about 2,700 parcels were moved per day. Today DPD handles an average 150,000 daily parcels in Austria. A workforce of approximately 1,500 persons with a total of 900 vehicles are in operation, shipping around 38.5 million parcels in Austria last year. Turnover rose about two per cent last year to EUR 160.7 million. DPD Austria (Direct Parcel Distribution) based in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna provides services for national and international parcel distribution.
