ÖBB Rail Cargo Group launches new rail product for containers

Rail Cargo Group starts first direct connection for container transport between Tilburg, Wels and Bratislava

A transnational service on the Tilburg/Wels/Bratislava-route offering two weekly rotations is the latest addition in container rail service of the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group. Launched on May 14 the service offers shorter transport time on the railway and a sustainable increase in quality for the customers, the company states.

The containers are transhipped to railway at the Tilburg terminal and are “rolling“ from the Netherlands via Wels to Slovakia. “A short stopover at the Wels terminal allows also the simple transport of exports and imports from or to Bratislava and Tilburg, thereby increasing the load factor“, reads a press release of the Rail Cargo Group.

The new service of the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group is based on cooperation with Danube Gate (a company of Slovak Shipping & Ports and Railport Brabant). Traction for the Netherlands and Germany is managed by DB Schenker, and by Lokorail in Slovakia. The new link increases the frequency for the existing product Flying Dutchman from two to four weekly departures.

The geographic beneficial situation and the trimodal terminal make Tilburg a major strategic hub. The railway station in the Netherlands serves as a main hub for West Europe, with connections to the ARA ports (Amsterdam, Antwerp, Rotterdam).
