P&O Ferries to lift capacity at Teesport by 25pc

P&O Ferries aims to increase the capacity at on its Zeebrugge-Teesport route by 25 per cent to create a gateway to Scotland within the next month.

It currently carries more than 100,000 freight units a year to Teesport from its continental hub at Zeebrugge, and plans to increase the capacity of its ships by combining with a new rail service to Mossend in Scotland from PD Ports.

PD Ports will support the expansion by providing additional capacity for P&O Ferries’ upsized Zeebrugge-Teesport route through more investment its rail services to Scotland.

The two will be integrated to provide a seamless transfer of freight between them.

“The 15 hour sailing is more cost efficient than more northerly routes and by integrating our timetable with PD Ports’ new rail service to Scotland we can guarantee customers an unrivalled service to and from northern Britain,” said P&O ferries chief executive Janette Bell.
