P&O Ferrymasters in new deal with steel giant Tata

Tata Steel Europe awards P&O Ferrymasters a new contract that covers UK exports across Europe and European cross-border distribution

Logistics solutions specialist P&O Ferrymasters has been awarded a new EUR 225 million pan-European road transport contract by Tata Steel Europe (TSE). The three-year deal from January 2014 extends a partnership dating from 2001 with Europe’s second-largest steel producer.

The latest agreement covers UK exports across Europe – excluding Ireland, Italy and Scandinavia – managed by TSE’s UK hubs in South Wales, Corby and Scunthorpe, together with European cross-border distribution coordinated from its Ijmuiden steelworks in the Netherlands.

Transport operations at each plant are run by dedicated on-site teams reporting to Mike Shannon, general manager contract logistics at P&O Ferrymasters and TSE contract manager. The Tata contract team will continue to focus on safety and service, as well as unlocking savings and developing initiatives to enhance the overall logistics solution to TSE.

P&O Ferrymasters managing director Bas Belder says: ‘We have been working with Tata Steel Europe for many years. I am very pleased that our strong relationship is continuing into 2014 and beyond. Our focus has always been to continually improve the overall service offering and work closely with TSE on how we deliver it. Our operational, health & safety and development teams, along with our enhanced IT systems, will ensure that we maintain this approach in the future.’

P&O Ferrymasters is one of the leading European providers of tailor-made transportation and logistics services. They specialise in the design and delivery of innovative and flexible supply chain solutions that add value to their customers‘ businesses. “We lead the way in developing pioneering intermodal solutions, using 45ft dry and temperature controlled containers on strategic intermodal routes, while we have the largest steel coil carrying fleet anywhere in mainland Europe,” they announce.
