Port of Rotterdam examines market potential in Bavaria

Port of Rotterdam and bayernhafen group launching ‘bayrolo’ empirical survey about user behaviour and potentials of combined transport

The port of Rotterdam and the bayernhafen group have launched the empirical survey ‘bayrolo’ in Nuremberg. Numerous interviews with experts of various players in the transport chain shall provide new information about how Bavaria’s enterprises are organising their logistics, what relations and transport modes must offer to be among the relevant set, and about the expectations of shippers of additional multimodal transport routes between Bavaria and Rotterdam. This will be completed by scientific findings on market changes in the combined transport sector.

The objective of this transnational joint project is to increase the share of container transport, shift more volume from road to rail and waterway, demonstrate the benefits of a shift of transport modes to the shipping industry, and offer an additional seaport alternative.

bayrolo is scientifically accompanied by Professor Dr. Christoph Tripp, Technical University of Nuremberg, and Professor Peter de Langen, Technical University of Eindhoven. Key members on board are also: Dr. Karin Jäntschi-Hauke of the Supreme Building Authority in the Bavarian State Ministry of Interior, Building and Transport, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, of DB Netz AG, of the national associations Landesverband Bayerischer Transport- und Logistikunternehmen (LBT) and the LBS – Landesverband Bayerischer Spediteure, and of FENEX und Neele Transporte.
