Port of Trieste: Double-digit growth in the container segment

The traffic figures of the port of Trieste have improved significantly in the first six months of 2018. Zeno D’Agostino, President of the Eastern Adriatic Port Authority, is particularly proud of the new record in the railway sector: 4,816 trains were moved in the port area. This means an increase of 17.98 per cent compared to the same period in 2017, and a result that confirms the international railway competence of our port.”

Overall, the Italian port on the northern Adriatic shows a positive trend. In the first six months of 2018 the port saw an increase in total turnover of 7.87 per cent to 31.17 million tonnes of goods compared to the previous year. The Container segment posted a double-digit growth of 15.3 per cent to 345,056 TEU. Including containers and swap bodies (in TEU) with semi-trailer trucks and RoRo traffic, 704,655 TEU (up 9.03 per cent) were handled.

The positive RoRo figures (155,623 units), which have increased by 3.97 per cent, underline the good development of the sector. The result for general cargo handling was also encouraging at 8.87 million tonnes or + 8.74 per cent. In addition, an increase of 3.47 per cent was recorded for liquid bulk goods (21,503,899 tonnes) and 1.84 per cent for solid bulk goods (792,061 tonnes).
