Port of Tyne streamlines supply chain for Ringtons

The Port of Tyne has handled 45 tonnes of coffee beans in the first three weeks of its partnership with north-east of England coffee firm Ringtons.

It is the first time the Port of Tyne has handled coffee and has taken international road miles out of the supply chain for Ringtons.

Previously coffee was stored in Antwerp and transferred by truck to Ringtons facilities in Newcastle. Switching from Antwerp to receiving direct containers from origin via the Port of Tyne “offers us a more environmentally friendly, time efficient and cost-effective solution” said Ringtons head of coffee Stephen Drysdale.

Port of Tyne commercial director, logistics, Richard Newton said: “Our port centric logistics approach means Ringtons will benefit from our seamless handling of their goods from start to finish including increased and more flexible storage facilities, whilst at the same time reducing their costs and carbon footprint.”
