Positive environment pushes Schwarzmüller

Turnover of commercial vehicles producer Schwarzmüller growing by five per cent in 2013; planned expansion in 2014 to be tackled with own resources

Schwarzmüller, a truck manufacturer from Upper Austria, is growing about 5 per cent in 2013. In spite of a weak first half of the year the company generated a turnover of EUR 240 million, announced CEO Jan Willem Jongert on October 30 at the headquarters in Freinberg. If the current positive environment remains upright, Schwarzmüller expects a higher growth rate for next year. „2014 could bring the dynamics urgently needed by the industry,“ said Jongert.

The development of sales in 2013, according to his information is obtained from the currently outstanding orders in the company. Since June, the Schwarzmüller Group registers increasing customer interest and demand. In some key markets, market shares have been expanded. Currently, two large orders are delivered to Austrian transport and forwarding companies. „Our field service receives more attention with one of our central themes again: namely, that we offer bigger payloads than competitiors for every area,“ said Jongert. Over the summer production capacity had been raised due to this positive situation.

The Dutchman, who is solely responsible as the first CEO of Schwarzmüller took office in June, wants to increase the performance of the company. First investments in line with that have already been made. For example, a tugger system was set up to improve internal logistics at the main factory in Freinberg. Furthermore, the fleet of rented vehicles is growing in order to benefit from the trend „use instead of purchase“.

Schwarzmüller plans to expand sales activities in the core markets in 2014. A possible geographic expansion will be effected primarily with their own resources. In certain areas, they were also considering cooperation with distributors, says Jongert. The increased demand, combined with the increasing customer requirements is forcing Schwarzmüller also to design production processes more efficiently.

Being present in 20 European countries the Schwarzmüller group has positioned themselves as a leading supplier of drawn commercial vehicles (plateau, tilting, refrigerated, tanker, flatbed, container and wood/runge vehicles) in Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe. In addition to the production sites in Austria (Hanzing), the Czech Republic (Zebrak) and Hungary (Budapest) a Europe-wide network of service centers along the major traffic and transit routes is available.
