PostNL Parcels wins Zalando contract

PostNL Parcels has won a contract to deliver orders in the Netherlands for Zalando, an online fashion retailer. PostNL Parcels will handle both delivery and return shipments. The contract will become effective in the end of the second quarter of 2012.

According to research conducted by PostNL, measured in terms of online orders, fashion is the biggest segment of the Dutch online retail market. Its research showed that 14.8m fashion purchases were made by online shoppers in 2011. Almost a quarter of online fashion purchases result in return flows because the fashion items don’t fit or the colour is different than expected. Zalando offers its customers free shipment and return of their ordered fashion items as an integral element of its online proposition.

David Schroeder, Manager Mybrands-Zalando, commented on the contract: "We are very happy to have found a reliable distribution partner who meets our stringent requirements with regards to quality and delivery time to satisfy our customers. Not only for today, also for coming activities. PostNL opens us the opportunity to extend our business within the Netherlands to reach a higher customer awareness."

Gerrit Mastenbroek, Managing Director of PostNL Parcels, says: "We are proud to welcome Zalando as our newest customer and be able to be a contributor to the success of Zalando’s online business. We believe we can add to the customer experience of Zalando shoppers by offering unrivalled service levels and the added value of PostNL Pakjegemak, where receiving customers can have their order delivered to one of our post offices."
