Price increase with the parcel company GLS Austria

Due to the recent sharp increase in costs, the parcel company GLS Austria is rising its prices by an average of five per cent. The main reason is the rising delivery costs.

The parcel company is thus responding to changing market conditions, explains Klaus Schädle, GLS Group Area Managing Director. “We are registering massive increases in costs throughout Europe, driven, among other things, by the driver shortage. Increasing regulations in the labor law environment limit the flexibility in personnel deployment and are therefore another cost driver.”

The volume of parcels, which has risen dramatically, especially as a result of growing e-commerce, has required massive investments in new buildings and extensions in recent years. The volume growth has also led to a shortage of delivery drivers. GLS Austria has to pass these additional costs to its customers, in order to be able to continue to operate sustainably.

GLS has over 630 GLS PaketShops in Austria. The parent company GLS, General Logistics Systems BV with headquarters in Amsterdam provides parcel services for more than 270,000 customers and also offers express and logistics services. With its own companies and partners, the group covers 41 European and eight US states. Around 18,000 employees and approximately 30,000 vehicles are in daily use for GLS. In the financial year 2017/18, GLS transported 584 million parcels and generated sales of EUR 2.9 billion.
