Quehenberger manages warehousing for dm drogerie markt Romania

Outsourcing central warehouse logistics in Timisoara to Quehenberger Logistics increases flexibility with dm drogerie markt drugstore chain

dm drogerie markt, an international drugstore chain is outsourcing the logistics of its central warehouse in Romania to an external service provider. Quehenberger Logistics has been responsible for the smooth operations at the site in Timisoara since November 2013. Previously dm drogerie markt Austria had organised all distribution centres in its 10 associated countries in Central and South-Eastern Europe on their own.

The warehouse which is situated in a logistics centre offers a single step cross docking procedure for national suppliers in addition to stock keeping. This decreases transportation by combining supplier consignments whilst at the same time increasing product availability in dm stores. In addition, outsourcing to an external service provider enables flexible use of the logistics capacities.

The two companies entertain a longstanding partnership in Eastern Europe. Since the opening of the first dm shop in Romania in 2007, Quehenberger has been managing the logistics of dm drogerie markt. In the meantime, the drugstore chain headquartered in Wals near Salzburg has over 70 shops in Western and Southern Romania.

Via its dense East European network Quehenberger Logistics controls the flow of commodities from the dm central warehouse in Törökbalint (Hungary) to Romania. In a three-stage cross dock procedure the dm brand products are furnished with country-specific product labels, sorted in reusable containers and on pallets and then delivered across Romania within an exact timeframe. The Quehenberger sites in Timisoara, Bucharest and Cluj serve as network hubs.

Quehenberger CEO Christian Fürstaller says, “We are pleased with this mark of confidence. Because with the variant of a light distribution centre dm is outsourcing the operation of a national warehouse for the first time.” The planning of the project in Timisoara started in mid-2012; in May 2013 the warehouse had been gradually put into operation. Since November it has been fully operational. “I am pleased that we have developed a new form of cooperation in Romania with our longstanding partner Quehenberger in order to optimise the logistic challenges in this country,” states Hubert Krabichler, Managing Director of Logistics at dm drogerie markt.
