Railfreightlocations.eu kicks off the second round
The EU Commission, under the leadership of HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, has commissioned the consortium to develop the portal into the Europe-wide standard instrument for information on all rail service facilities. The website has been online in a pilot version since October 2015 and currently includes more than 3,700 entries across Europe.
So far, the portal has included the terminals of combined transport, public and private sidings and multifunctional railports. In future, in addition to the transhipment facilities, other plant types such as shunting yards, workshops or petrol stations will be included.
“Railfreightlocations.eu” is intended to offer all operators a convenient and cost-effective way to fulfill their information obligations in accordance with the relevant EU regulations and to publish more information about the facilities with the services offered there.
Shippers, railway operators and other rail logistics companies thus receive a central contact point for all market-relevant plant data and services. In addition to the technical development of the portal and the initial data acquisition, recommendations for a business and operator model are also developed, so that the web service can be used permanently in the future. The project will run for approximately one year and will be completed in May 2019.
The initiative is supported by the main European industry associations. In addition to HaCon, the International Rail Freight Business Association (IBS), the International Union for Combined Road-Rail (UIRR), the International Union of Railways (UIC), the Combined Transport Study Association (SGKV) and the Swedish consulting and software company Triona are involved project partners.
