Recent appointments in air cargo sector

Garudia Indonesia appoints ECS in Europe; Vueling Airlines appoints WFS at Heathrow and Edinburgh.

Garuda Indonesia is rebuilding its long-haul international network with the launch of a new daily service from Jakarta to Amsterdam via Dubai, and has awarded a Europe-wide cargo GSA contract to European Cargo Services (ECS) to maximise the potential of its bellyhold freight capacity.

After an absence of almost six years, Amsterdam is the first of several major European destinations that Garuda Indonesia intends to add to its expanding network over the next four years, including Frankfurt, London, Paris and Rome.

ECS will now market the fourteen tonnes of capacity available each day on Garuda’s Airbus A330-200 flights ex Amsterdam Schiphol, and expects to generate around 5,200 tonnes of freight a year for the airline.

In addition to the Netherlands, other major cargo generating markets for Garuda include France, Germany and Scandinavia. As well as Dubai and Jakarta, ECS will market Garuda destinations across Asia and Australasia, including Bangkok, Beijing, Darwin, Guangzhou, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Nagoya, Osaka, Perth, Riyadh, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Garuda Indonesia becomes the first Indonesian airline to reopen flights to Europe after the EU’s ban that prohibited Indonesian carriers from operating in European airspace was lifted in July last year.

Spain’s Vueling Airlines has appointed Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) to provide cargo handling services at London Heathrow and Edinburgh.

The airline operates three flights a day to Bilbao, Madrid and Seville and carries around 1,500 tonnes a year on its Airbus A320 services.
