RHA welcome for £1.3bn road plan

The Road Haulage Association has welcomed reports that chancellor Philip Hammond has earmarked an extra £1.3bn is to be spent on improving Britain’s road network.

Hammond is expected to confirm the extra cash when he makes his Autumn Statement on Wednesday (23 November).

HA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “The roads are the transport operator’s place of work. Congestion costs the haulage industry and the wider economy billions of pounds each year. The news that the Treasury is determined to cut congestion comes as welcome news indeed.

“And if, as predicted, we are to see a further 2 pence per litre fuel duty freeze, then for many road freight operators the festive season will certainly look less bleak.”
