Sainsbury’s signs with SSI Schaefer

Sainsbury’s has awarded SSI Schaefer a contract to provide automation systems for its national distribution centre in Crick.

The site will stock Sainsbury’s entire general merchandise range and will have capacity to store 220,000 pallets.

The system from SSI Schaefer will be able to deliver some 2.4 million units per week, and the site will service over 550 stores nationally every day.

The Schaefer system consists of an automated high-bay, double deep pallet storage system which feeds product to picking areas via a combination of inverted monorail and pallet conveyor.
The whole process is controlled by a Schaefer bespoke Warehouse Control System which is fully integrated with Sainsbury’s own JDA Warehouse Management System.

James Osborn, strategy manager for Sainsbury’s said: „We are proud to be working with SSI Schaefer on this exciting project for our business. Our customers expect us to choose partners which represent our own values as an organisation and we believe that SSI Schaefer do just this.“

Jaap Vos, UK managing director for SSI Schaefer, said: „We are delighted to be working on this project as a partner to Sainsbury’s.”
