Studiengesellschaft für den Kombinierten Verkehr (SGKV): Interactive map of combined transport terminals in Europe to increase transparency in combined traffic
With immediate effect, the study association Studiengesellschaft für den Kombinierten Verkehr (SGKV) offers an interactive map of all combined transport terminals in Europe at www.intermodal-map.com The objective of this intermodal map is to increase transparency in intermodal transport, and facilitate the entry of potential players in the market, and support active players in shifting further road transport volumes to environmentally friendly railway.
The intermodal map contains all important information about European combined transport terminals. The free version, accessible for everybody, contains basic information about the terminals, while the member version provides additional information and further map functions. Thus the user receives fast information about available transhipment facilities in a certain region, or which transport modes are served. Moreover contact data of the terminals can be found there. The map contains also many more information about provided services, equipment and transhipment capacity, as far as the data is available. There are even more ideas for the regularly updated map. The next challenge is to integrate current data of trains and river ships linking the terminals into the intermodal map.
Studiengesellschaft für den Kombinierten Verkehr (SGKV) e.V. is a non-profit organisation with the aim of investigating combined transport as a transport mode in Germany and Europe, and promote its practice. The association based in Berlin has more than 100 members from all logistics segments, ranging from shippers and transport companies to end customers. The key operational segment of SGKV is consultancy of their members, cooperation in national and international research projects as well as consultancy of public and commercial institutions. SGKV offers a neutral and open platform for the transfer of knowledge and promote the exchange of experiences in the segments of transport, environment, standardisation, trends and security of combined transport.
