SNCB Logistics Group achieved positive EBITDA for the first time

SBCB Logistics will continue to restructure in 2014; the group also aspires to increased volumes of rail transport, through significantly improving reliability of its service

In 2013 the SNCB Logistics Group booked a positive EBITDA of EUR 7 million for the first time. Compared to 2012 this represents an improvement of EUR 18 million, and an improvement of EUR 97 million compared to 2011. “Thanks to the restructuring measures taken in recent years, both within SNCB Logistics and in the commercial subsidiaries IFB and Xpedys, including the rationalisation of the group structure, the continual increase in operational efficiency and in the quality of its services and the structural strengthening of the organisation, we have succeeded once again in reducing its net losses, despite a 2% decrease in turnover for its rail activities compared to 2012,” the company announces.

Although market circumstances, both nationally and internationally, remain difficult, the results for the first few months of 2014 confirm the positive trend in recent years. The company’s objective continues to be to achieve a positive net result as well. In 2014, therefore, SNCB Logistics will continue to implement restructuring measures with a view to achieving additional cost reductions and structural improvements in quality.

With its shareholder SNCB, the company continues to hold talks with various parties to guarantee the development of its activities and the reliability of its services in a European context. This applies particularly to single wagon load transport, which plays a central role in the industrial activities of companies all over the country.

In 2008 all companies that are active in the freight division of SNCB were combined in one integrated group, the SNCB freight group. The purpose was to join the strengths and complementary activities of the member-companies under one strong structure. In 2009 the SNCB freight group was finalised and was called SNCB Logistics. In 2011 SNCB Logistics sa/nv became an independent company and freight operator. The two commercial brands of the group are IFB as specialist in logistics solutions for container transport and Xpedys  for bulk, metals and industrial & consumer goods.
