SPAR wholesaler invests in PDAs for retail delivery

James Hall & Co, the SPAR wholesaler for the North of England, is rolling out Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) for delivery.

The devices will enable drivers to access a delivery risk assessment prior to delivery and via a link to GPS, retailers will receive a message to their phone 15 minutes before the delivery arrival.

“Our retailers clearly asked us for better communication on drivers’ arrival times, and for drivers to be better informed of their stores’ requirements,” said transport manager Mark Clayden.

“The PDA will also allow us to improve the management of transit media collections, and to monitor what our drivers are picking up.
