Stable cargo handling at Seaports Niedersachsen

Seaports Niedersachsen: cars, agricultural products and project cargo offset the losses of bulk freight caused by general economic situation

During the first half of 2014, freight volume in maritime transport at Seaports Niedersachsen (Brake, Cuxhaven, Emden, Leer, Nordenham, Oldenburg, Papenburg, Stade, Wilhelmshaven) was slightly regressive. 22.85 million tonnes of goods were handled. This corresponds to a reduction of 2% as compared with the previous year (23.36 million tonnes), which is essentially caused by the crisis-related decline in the turnover of mass goods.

“For important business fields such as the transhipment of cars, agricultural products and project cargo (e.g. wind energy component), clearly positive developments were evident from January to June. Our company is optimistic for the second half of the year and we expect the full year result to be on the previous year’s level,“ explained Inke Onnen-Lübben, Managing Director of Seaports of Niedersachsen, upon the presentation of the half-year report.
