Far East Land Bridge celebrates the Su-Meng-EU block train

Far East Land Bridge’s new high-speed service between Suzhou and Warsaw targets at a transit time of 14 days

Far East Land Bridge Ltd. (FELB) is launching a new block-train system between Suzhou and Warsaw, where single container shipments take advantage of a closed block-train service. On 14 October the first operation of the Su-Meng-EU Block Train arrived at the Cargosped Terminal in Warsaw. Transit time of the high-speed service with top security surveillance and GPS tracing takes 14 days (instead of the regular 24 days).

Far East Land Bridge’s new solution for trade between Europe and China is transporting containers via the Trans-Siberian railway. Prior to that transportation was generally based on using the sea route. The aim of this project is to provide a faster and greener way of operating shipments between Central Europe and China.

According to Thomas Kargl, CEO of Far East Land Bridge, the perspectives of the current project organized in cooperation with the government of Suzhou, PKP Cargo and Russian Railways Logistics on dispatching new speedy container train from Suzhou, industrial center in Eastern China, are promising, hence the volume expectation is estimated at three trains per week.

The Trans-Siberian railway is connecting Europe and China, extending the wide gauge network over 9.500 km through Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. In Europe and in China the cross-over from the wide gauge to the normal gauge is effected through special equipped terminals positioned in Brest (Belarus)/ Malaszewicze (Poland) for the northern connection, and Chop (Ukraine)/Dobra (Slovakia) or Zahony (Hungary) for the southern connection. In the Far East the main cross-over point is Zabaikalsk (Russia) /Manzhouli (China); from there 90% of Far East Land Bridge’s shipments are operated.

Far East Land Bridge is a well-established service provider offering regular, stable and high-frequency transit and import/export shuttle since 2008, having in stock 7.000 own containers. The annual volume of operated containers in 2012 was 35.000 TEU.
